Pony Party Hat

So my almost 4 year old daughter is obsessed with My Little Pony and her very favorite is Pinkie Pie! She asked me to make her a Pinkie hat and when it comes to crochet items her wish is my command, well sometimes. hehe

She absolutely loves the finished product but was a bit disappointed that it wasn’t an actual pony. If you have a MLP lover in your home I hope they will love this as much as she does!

MATERIALS:

~Caron Simply Soft yarn Appx. 175yds for hat & small amounts for balloons

~H size hook- for hat G size hook for balloons

~Yarn needle

~Scissors

GAUGE:

6 rows – 8 hdc = 2 inch square

Finished measures- 8 inches from top of crown to bottom of scallop

Approximately 18 inches around

NOTES:

All rounds joined to 1st HDC not chain

Ch 1 of each round does not count as a stitch

When joining rounds be sure to tighten your working yarn when you sl st. I find this helps to hide the seam

This hat is longer as it is cold here in MN you can easily shorten it by cutting out rows as needed or leaving off the scalloped edge

This hat does fit loosely for my almost 4 year old if you would like it to fit tighter like more of a beanie style stop your increase rounds earlier to adjust the finished circumference.

BALLOONS: Using G size hook

MC

  • 8 sc into mc, join, ch 1 8
  • 2 sc into each st around, join, ch 1 16
  • 1 sc into first st, 2 sc into next st, repeat around, join, ch 1 24
  • 1 sc in the next 8 sts, 2 sc in next 8 sts, 1 sc in last 8 sts, join, sl st over 2 sts, ch 1 & turn
  • 2 sc, ch1, turn, 2 sc in each st

Fasten off, weave in ends

Using a new strand of yarn surface crochet your tails on in any fashion you would like.

I like to keep a long tail on both ends for weaving in when done. To finish off I used my yarn needle to weave in along the path of the tails inside the hat making sure to go down the tail and back up to really get the tails woven tightly.
